At BBI, we specialize in helping expats start their own freelancing business or startup, which is a great way to secure a long-term visa or permanent residency in Germany. A visa for self-employment has no language requirement, doesn’t depend on finding an employer (obviously, and a real advantage in this difficult economy!), and can be applied for from inside or outside of the country. At BBI, we can help you plan your immigration process, including starting with other visa forms, such as a student, vocational training, or Opportunity Card visa, with the ultimate goal of self-employment in Germany.

A visa for self-employment can be granted through your local consulate, but other visas can also be converted later to a visa for self-employment. This means that even if you don’t find a job, you can remain in Germany for the long term as a freelancer or business owner. Permanent residency is then possible in as few as 3-5 years.
